The 7 required items

  • Safety statement
  • Start and end locations
  • Date you are available
  • Licence type
  • Medical certificate or declaration
  • Total hours flown
  • Hours on type in the last 3 months

Place the advert yourself - it must be placed by the pilot of the flight. Don't offer a flight to any destination and time the passenger chooses.

Frequently asked questions

What must a cost-sharing advert include?
Under NCO.GEN.102(i) it must state that the flight is a private arrangement not conducted in accordance with CAT safety standards, and give the start and end locations, the date you are available, your licence type, your medical certificate or declaration, your total hours and your hours on the advertised type in the three months before the advert is placed.
Who can place the advert?
Under NCO.GEN.102(i) the advert must be placed by the pilot intending to operate the flight. For permit aircraft and microlights, ANO 2016 article 13(3) allows the pilot or operator of the flight to place it.
Does this apply to posts in social media groups?
The rules apply to any advertisement or promotion of the flight and make no exception for social media. Whether a casual post in a closed group counts is not settled, so the cautious approach is to include all seven items whenever you promote a flight.
Can I let passengers choose where and when to fly?
CAP 1590 (guidance), paragraph 23, says flights should not be advertised as an offering of a flight to any destination and time at the determination of a passenger. Advertise a flight you have planned, which passengers can join.
