No passenger may pay more than an equal share, so the pilot always pays at least theirs - any odd pennies go to the pilot. You can choose to pay more and let passengers pay less.

Sorted the maths? Now the paperwork.

Every cost-sharing passenger needs to receive the required information and sign a declaration before you fly, and you need to keep the records. Split My Flight does all of that for free.

  • Passenger declarations signed online
  • A compliance document for every flight
  • Records kept for you

Frequently asked questions

How are costs split on a UK cost-sharing flight?
Each passenger can contribute no more than the total direct costs divided equally by everyone on board, including the pilot. So the pilot always pays at least an equal share, and can choose to pay more so passengers pay less.
Which costs can I include?
Only the direct costs listed in the regulations: fuel, oil, airfield charges and aircraft rental at the current market rate. Annual costs such as insurance, maintenance and club membership are paid by the pilot, and there can be no profit.
How many people can share the cost of a flight?
Up to six people, including the pilot. A LAPL(A) or NPPL(A) holder can carry at most four people in total, and a microlight carries two.
Does it cost anything to manage the paperwork with Split My Flight?
No. Split My Flight is free for UK pilots: it sends passengers the required information, collects their signed declarations and keeps the records.
